Fire reduces 38 houses to ashes
KHONSA, Jan 02: Atleast 38 residential houses, including a community hall, were reduced to ashes in a major fire in Lazu village, some 42 km from Khonsa, on New Year Eve at 1.30 pm.
One ‘Pang’ (male dormitory) and 23 houses were also damaged partially in the fire.
The fire brigade from Khonsa rushed to the spot. But, in the meantime, the fire devoured 38 houses.
Though deaths of few domestic animals are reported, there was no loss of life or injuries.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
The fire victims are currently taking shelter in their relatives’ houses. There were around 220 houses in the village.
The Assam Rifles based in Lazu are providing basic requirements like drinking water, tent houses etc to the helpless ones.
Meanwhile, District Administration has sanctioned Rs.5000 each to the victims along with 60 bag rice as immediate relief. Tirap Deputy Commissioner Ravi Jha instructed Lazu EAC to make correct and detailed assessment of properties lost or damaged in the inferno.
Tirap ZPC Chahwang Lowang has donated six bags of rice and some blankets to the fire victims.
While expressing shock and grief over the fire accident in Lazu, Minister for Civil Supplies, DoTCL and Mining and local MLA Tirong Aboh appealed to the District Administration and all other govt agencies to extend helping hands and service voluntarily to the victims. DIPRO

BJP apprehends law and order breakdown post HC hearing

Union resents govt apathy over school condition
ITANAGAR, Jan 02: The Galo Students' Union (GSU), has expressed resentment at the negligence by the state government and the Education Department over the condition of the Eshi Chiku Primary School under West Siang. The school was found in a dilapidated condition with almost no school infrastructure and improper distribution of school uniform, stated GSU in a release.

NGO comes to aid of pregnant woman

PASIGHAT, Jan 02: Continuing its humanitarian aid, the Siang Arati Mahotsav Committee today arranged the treatment of a sick pregnant woman and facilitated for transportation of her husband, who had died at Pasighat today.
The Siang Arati Mahotsav Committee led by Municipal Councilor Makpak Peyang informed the relatives of one Papulu Narzary (30) of Jonai from neighbouring Assam who was undergoing treatment at Pasighat General Hospital, died at the hospital this morning, while his pregnant wife, the only attendant was lying unconscious on the hospital bed. The volunteers also arranged proper treatment of the woman and later sent her back to home at Jonai.
It is pertinent to mention that Siang Arati Mahotsav Committee, Pasighat has already been recognised by the district administration for its various public welfare services. The committee helps poor and helpless medical patients irrespective of cast, creed and religion.

DAO Ote Darin passes away
YINGKIONG, Jan 2: District Agriculture Officer, Upper Siang, Ote Darin passed away on Jan 1 after a prolonged illness while he was on way back to Pasighat from New Delhi.
Darin had joined state government service as a ADO and had served as Principal of GTC, Pasighat, and had been serving as DAO for last one and half year in Upper Siang district. He is survived by his wife Titel Jamoh Darin, a son and two daughters.

Arunachal, Nagaland to get Passport seva kendras
AGARTALA, Jan 02: External Affairs Ministry (MEA) has decided to open passport seva kendras in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland this month and organise camps in remote areas to issue passports.
"With the setting up of two more passport seva kendras in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, all the eight north eastern states would have passport seva kendras in the region.
"We have also planned to organise more camps in remote areas to issue passports to people at their doorsteps," MEA joint secretary and chief passport officer Muktesh Kumar Pardeshi told reporters here on Thursday.
Pardeshi said there were 80 passport seva kendras in the country and the ministry was keen to expand its base further.
A total 1.20 crore passports were issued in 2015, which is 20 per cent more than the previous year and the country emerged as the third largest passport issuing one after China and USA, he said.
A target of earning of revenue of Rs 2,400 crore has been fixed for the fiscal year by issuing passports, he added. PTI
