Fire reduces 38 houses to ashes

KHONSA, Jan 02: Atleast 38 residential houses, including a community hall, were reduced to ashes in a major fire in Lazu village, some 42 km from Khonsa, on New Year Eve at 1.30 pm.

One ‘Pang’ (male dormitory) and 23 houses were also damaged partially in the fire.

The fire brigade from Khonsa rushed to the spot. But, in the meantime, the fire devoured 38 houses.

Though deaths of few domestic animals are reported, there was no loss of life or injuries.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

The fire victims are currently taking shelter in their relatives’ houses. There were around 220 houses in the village.

The Assam Rifles based in Lazu are providing basic requirements like drinking water, tent houses etc to the helpless ones.

Meanwhile, District Administration has sanctioned Rs.5000 each to the victims along with 60 bag rice as immediate relief. Tirap Deputy Commissioner Ravi Jha instructed Lazu EAC to make correct and detailed assessment of properties lost or damaged in the inferno.

Tirap ZPC Chahwang Lowang has donated six bags of rice and some blankets to the fire victims.

While expressing shock and grief over the fire accident in Lazu, Minister for Civil Supplies, DoTCL and Mining and local MLA Tirong Aboh appealed to the District Administration and all other govt agencies to extend helping hands and service voluntarily to the victims.  DIPRO

 

 

Border personnel meet witness Indo-China bonhomie

ITANAGAR, Dec 02: Chinese soldiers sang Bollywood hits and performed scintillating dances before the Indian army showing perfect bonhomie during the ceremonial border personnel meet of Indian and Chinese army at Damai of Zayu Garrison in Chengdu Province, China held on the occasion of New Year.

After paying respect to the National Flags and playing of National Anthems, the Chinese soldiers surprised the audience singing Bollywood hits “Jai Ho” and “Ankhe Khuli Ho Ya Ho Bandh”. The programme, in fact, has shown the ever growing bonhomie between the armies of the two nations.  

The Chinese delegation was led by Senior Colonel Hu Xiao Bao and the Indians were led by Brigadier SS Bhogal.

 

 

Lhakpa Tsering declared winner of 17th Raid-de-Himalaya

ITANAGAR, Jan 02: Lhakpa Tsering of Arunachal Pradesh, who had finished second in the “17th Raid-de-Himalaya” in October this year, was declared winner of the event in place of Raj Singh Rathore.

Tsering was declared winner after Rathore’s entry into the event was declared ‘null and void’ due to technical discrepancies in his paper works, according to Vijay Parmar, the Head of the event organizer, in an official communiqué.

Suresh Rana of Maruti Suzuki, who finished third in the event, lodged a complaint with Federation of Motorsports Clubs of India (FMSCI) challenging the technical soundness of Rathore’s participation in the event.

Rathore has ultimately lost his title after FMSCI has given its judgment against him after one and half month’s deliberations.

Thus, Lhakpa has achieved the feat in his 6th attempt.

Known as one of the top ten toughest motor sport rallies of the world, the 17th Raid-de-Himalaya was run in compliance with the International Sporting Code of the FIA, National Competition Rules (NCR) & General Prescriptions of the FMSCI.

Meanwhile, Tsering has dedicated his recapped title to the youth of NE with an urge to stay away from drugs and alcohol.

“There is so much more to life than drugs and alcohol. Please don’t throw away your life,” Lhakpa said.

The event started in Shimla on October 10 and covered a distance of 2000 km passing through highest mountain passes in the world with harsh climatic condition temperatures touching as low as -22 degrees in seven days. The rally culminated at Sri Nagar in Jammu and Kashmir.

 

 

 

BJP apprehends law and order breakdown post HC hearing

ITANAGAR, Jan 02: Apprehending a possible law and order breakdown post High Court hearing on January 4, the Arunachal Pradesh unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today demanded the State Government to make elaborate security arrangements by deploying additional forces.

“There is massive flow of volunteers from various districts to the State Capital and nearby areas reportedly creating a sense of fear psychosis amongst the capital dwellers,” State BJP claimed in a release.

The party demanded the law enforcing authority to deploy additional para-military forces, if necessary, to deal with any situation that may arise due to the current situation.

“It is the responsibility of the state government to ensure peace and tranquility and well being of the people in any situation. Any breach of law and order because of their factional feuds and political upheaval should not victimize the innocent publics of the state,” the party told the ruling Congress government.

 

 

 

KV student tops in essay competition

ITANAGAR, Jan 02: Gladis P Saji, was felicitated by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at New Delhi recently for being KVS Tinsukia region topper of all India essay competition for KVS students.

The competition, on seven topics including ‘Relevance of Mahatma Gandhi in contemporary world’, was conducted by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan in collaboration with XPD division of External Affairs Ministry.

The winners were given certificate, books and software for easy downloading of books.

Along with 24 others, she interacted with Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani and called on President Pranab Mukharjee, according to KV sources.

Gladis, daughter of PWD engineer Sajimon Thomas and Mini Saji, a Cl-X student of Naharlagun  KV-I is a state level GoAP scholarship awardee.

 

 

 

Doni Nich appointed member of CBFC advisory panel

ITANAGAR, Jan 02: Doni Nich has been appointed as Member of Advisory Panel of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) by Government of India, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for two years.    

Doni Nich, son of late Nich Taj and Nich Sith of Neelam village, Yazali under Lower Subansiri district has been actively associated with various tribal socio-cultural, games and sports activities, informed State BJP in a release.

He is the BJYM National Secretary. Prior to this, he was the state BJYM President of Arunachal Pradesh unit.

State BJP Tai Tagak hoped his induction as member of the CBFC Advisory Panel will go a long way in tapping hidden talents of youths in film industry.

 

 

 

Union resents govt apathy over school condition

ITANAGAR, Jan 02: The Galo Students' Union (GSU), has expressed resentment at the negligence by the state government and the Education Department over the condition of the Eshi Chiku Primary School under West Siang. The school was found in a dilapidated condition with almost no school infrastructure and improper distribution of school uniform, stated GSU in a release.

Earlier attending a Youth day celebration at Eshi Chiku Village on Dec 31, Galo Students' Union (GSU), President, Binya Ronya stressed on the role of parents and called on them to render proper guidance to their children for better future. He also called on the youths to take active part in promoting various awareness programme conducted by different government departments and also to monitor area development activities.

 

 

 

NGO comes to aid of pregnant woman

PASIGHAT, Jan 02: Continuing its humanitarian aid, the Siang Arati Mahotsav Committee today arranged the treatment of a sick pregnant woman and facilitated for transportation of her husband, who had died at Pasighat today.

The Siang Arati Mahotsav Committee led by Municipal Councilor Makpak Peyang informed the relatives of one Papulu Narzary (30) of Jonai from neighbouring Assam who was undergoing treatment at Pasighat General Hospital, died at the hospital this morning, while his pregnant wife, the only attendant was lying unconscious on the hospital bed. The volunteers also arranged proper treatment of the woman and later sent her back to home at Jonai.

It is pertinent to mention that Siang Arati Mahotsav Committee, Pasighat has already been recognised by the district administration for its various public welfare services. The committee helps poor and helpless medical patients irrespective of cast, creed and religion.

 

 

 

Healing crusade

ITANAGAR, Jan 2: A healing crusade cum New Year’s celebration was organized by Jesus 2nd Coming Christian Prayer Centre Management Development Committee from December 31 to January 1 last.

Speaking on the occasion, PHE and disaster management minister Takam Pario asked the believers to maintain peace and not to discriminate anyone in the name of religion.

DAO Ote Darin passes away

YINGKIONG, Jan 2: District Agriculture Officer, Upper Siang, Ote Darin passed away on Jan 1 after a prolonged illness while he was on way back to Pasighat from New Delhi.

Darin had joined state government service as a ADO and had served as Principal of GTC, Pasighat, and had been serving as DAO for last one and half year in Upper Siang district. He is survived by his wife Titel Jamoh Darin, a son and two daughters.

Parliamentary Secretary (PWD) Alo Libang, MLA Mariyang-Geku, Olom Panyang and Upper Siang DC, Remo Kamki have expressed their condolences over the premature demise of Late Darin.

Meanwhile, MP Ninong Ering, Pasighat MLA Kaling Moyong and former Minister Bosiram Siram have also condoled the sudden demise of Darin. Expressing deep shock and grief, all of them in their messages prayed for eternal rest and peace of the departed. DIPRO

 

 

 

Arunachal, Nagaland to get Passport seva kendras

AGARTALA, Jan 02: External Affairs Ministry (MEA) has decided to open passport seva kendras in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland this month and organise camps in remote areas to issue passports.

"With the setting up of two more passport seva kendras in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, all the eight north eastern states would have passport seva kendras in the region.

"We have also planned to organise more camps in remote areas to issue passports to people at their doorsteps," MEA joint secretary and chief passport officer Muktesh Kumar Pardeshi told reporters here on Thursday.

Pardeshi said there were 80 passport seva kendras in the country and the ministry was keen to expand its base further.

A total 1.20 crore passports were issued in 2015, which is 20 per cent more than the previous year and the country emerged as the third largest passport issuing one after China and USA, he said.

A target of earning of revenue of Rs 2,400 crore has been fixed for the fiscal year by issuing passports, he added.  PTI
